Job Summary:

The responsibility of the Campus Safety Officer is to ensure the safety of all members of the Lewis and Clark community and the security of all Lewis and Clark College property. Respond and effectively resolve emergency situations independently or with the assistance of internal or external resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree
• 3 years of experience in a similar role, such as private safety, park rangers, police officer, military
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
DPSST certification
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• Working knowledge of local, county, and state laws and regulations
• Ability to work varied schedule and at short notice
• Ability to report to work even when the college is closed on account of hazardous conditions due to inclement weather or other natural or human-caused disasters

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a campus safety officer
• Ability/willingness to become trainer in emergency response – CERT, DPSST, ICS, etc.
• Ability to serve as lead officer

Pay Rate: $21.74/hr
Essential Functions:

• Vehicle and foot patrol of campus property to observe campus conditions and provide preventative measures to deter crime.
• Building security, including physically locking and unlocking doors, managing access for digital card reader locks, and after hours access to secured areas.
• Enforcement of college policy and State and Local laws, specifically related to smoking policy, drug and alcohol policy, and safety related policies.
• Investigate policy violations and crimes on campus, including theft, graffiti, criminal mischief, public intoxication, and mayhem.
• Write detailed reports of policy violations and/or crimes on campus, determined by severity of the violation or crime.
• First responder to medical and other emergencies, including, but not limited to: simple first aid, determination of medical/hospitalization necessity, mental health crisis, weather or natural disaster related emergencies, chemical spills, and fire. Respond to alarms (intrusion, fire, trouble and panic).
• Public service, including assisting visitors to campus, monitoring after hours events, escorting employees and students for safety concerns, providing vehicle assistance (for dead batteries, flat tires, etc), and responding to neighborhood complaints.
